EMC | EMI Signal Generators

RF (radio frequency) signal generators produce RF signals that can be adjusted by frequency, waveform, output voltage, modulation, and impedance. They are commonly described as function or waveform generators and are designed to generate electronic signals with high spectral purity and reliable frequency and amplitude. Signal generators can be used for an array of applications, including cellular communications, radar, WiFi, GPS, audio, satellite communications, and the list goes on. They generate CW (continuous wave) tones and the output can be tuned within its designated frequency range.

There are multiple varying types of signal generators to choose from depending on the testing objective. Some of the different types of applications include oscillators, pulse generators, random noise generators, frequency synthesizers, and standard signal generators. Oscillators produce sine waves that can be used when measuring the return of acoustic systems, transducers, microphones, loudspeakers, and amplifiers. Pulse generators are used to generate pulsed signals at a particular frequency and span. Random noise generators are used for electronic and mechanical testing and produce wideband noise. Frequency synthesizers are able to produce an extremely accurate output of frequencies over a wide range. Standard signal generators produce sine waves over a wide range of output power and can test measure gain, bandwidth, and signal to noise ratio.

Avalon offers a variety of signal generators from top manufacturers (R&STeseq, and more) for rent or purchase to meet specific requirements set by IEC, MIL-STD, and CISPR.

Teseq ITS 6006B Test System

The ITS 6006 consist of an integrated RF signal generator, RF switch and EUT monitoring interfaces. The unit is designed for various radiated EMC applications in the 80 MHz to 6 GHz frequency range. In addition to the generator, the system includes the AM and PM modulators necessary for EMC testing. The second generation, called ITS 6006B, includes 3 freely configurable pulse modulators (1 µs to 200 s) for radar pulse profiles as required e.g. by Ford FMC1278 or VW TL81000. The RF signal can be switched to one of four outputs, where up to four power amplifiers can be connected directly. Two RF switches are supplied for combining four amplifier into two antenna paths.
