MIL-STD-461 RE101

RE101 is a standard under the subcategory of radiated emissions within the umbrella standard of MIL-STD-461. This standard applies to equipment and subsystem enclosures, including electrical cable interfaces, producing radiated emissions within the frequency range of 30 Hz to 100 kHz. Radiation produced from antennas is excluded from this requirement. RE101 only applies to Navy aircraft with anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability. The purpose of this standard is to establish magnetic field emissions from equipment under test (EUT) and its electrical interfaces do not exceed the specified limits.

Test equipment needed for RE101 requirements:

  • Measurement receivers
  • Data recording device
  • Loop sensor having the following specifications:
    • Diameter: 13.3 cm
    • Number of turns: 36
    • Wire: DC resistance between 5 and 10 ohms
    • Shielding: Electrostatic
    • Correction factor: See manufacturer’s data for factors to convert measurement receiver readings to decibels above one picotesla (dBpT).
  • LISNs
  • Ohmmeter
  • Signal generator
