Return & Loss Test Sets

An optical loss test set (OLTS) is a handheld device that uses an optical light source and a power meter to test for a fiber optic link. A light source is produced with a precise wavelength while connected to one end of the fiber. At the same time, a power meter is connected to the opposite side of the fiber link. while the wavelengths are being produced by the light source, the detector is measuring optical power. This ensures that the optical power budget is within the design specifications and determines the total amount of light lost. The test measures the length of optical loss by checking for the polarity of the fiber optic links. It is important to use an OLTS when installing fiber optic networks to ensure the installation complies with global industry standards. This includes testing the polarity of fiber optic links, optical loss, and measuring the fiber length. These tests are required for fiber optic links and are known as "Tier-1 Fiber certification" or "Basic Certification". An OLTS can also be used during basic troubleshooting of optical links and channels.

Avalon carries a variety of optical loss test sets from top manufacturers (EXFO, VIAVI, and more) to meet your testing requirements. Rent or purchase from Avalon and Test With Confidence®.
