Verizon and ConcealFab have developed a new standard for resolving uplink noise (high RSSI/ branch imbalance) at cell sites caused by passive intermodulation. The new process requires technicians to load the sector under test with RF power from the site radios while using ConcealFab Absorber Kits and low PIM loads to isolate PIM sources. This new process is a win-win for Verizon and contractors performing work on Verizon sites. If a site has high RTWP, the process can quickly identify if the problem is internal (inside the feed system) or external (beyond the antenna). If internal, following the steps outlined in the standard will enable crews to accurately locate the problem and make appropriate repairs. This processdoes not require specialized test equipment, eliminates guess work and will reduce the number of return visits needed to resolve site issues.ConcealFab has developed an intense half-day training course to teach students the skills needed to correctly and safely implement the new Verizon standard. The course is a mix of classroom training (to understand “why”) and hands-on training (to understand “how”) to correctly and safely implement the standard.Customers interested in learning how to hunt and locate external PIM sources at cell sites using PIM and CPRI test equipment are encouraged to take ConcealFab’s External PIM Hunting training class.
STUDENTS WILL LEARN:
• What causes passive intermodulation (PIM)
• How to verify if PIM is internal or external using ConcealFab Absorber Kits
• How to safely and correctly install / use Absorber Kits in the field
• How to quickly locate internal PIM sources using low PIM loads
• How to care for and validate performance of low PIM loads
• How to correctly clean and torque RF connectors to prevent PIM
• Installation best practices to eliminate common PIM sources found near antennas (PIM Hygiene)
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
• Mobile operator technicians
• Installation contractors
• Tower top lead
• Crew lead
• Troubleshooting expert
